Verdict

We're going to take a punt with Songmaster in this competitive handicap; One To Follow and Lough Beg are also short-listed. The selection will do well to justify the 300,000 dollars that was spent on him as a yearling but he should be able to provide his current connections with some fun from his current mark. He shaped encouragingly on debut for Alan King in February before running in a really hot maiden at Leicester. Neither the ten furlong trip nor the soft ground would have played to his strengths and better is expected now that he's faced with a more realistic assignment. One To Follow is well handicapped and looks on the way back to form whilst there's no reason why Lough Beg shouldn't be able to maintain the progress that he has shown for his new yard now that he's switched to grass. Gary Moore's experienced pair both merit respect too although Bridgewater Boys is probably the pick. They are by no means the only contenders in an open race but Songmaster appeals as the type to progress in handicaps this summer.
