In depth

Verdict

An interesting maiden with a watching brief advised, but if you must have a bet then the suggestion is Missioner. Mark Johnston's colt was a decent third at Ascot last week, representing form that was probably as good as anything on offer here. With drying ground also in his favour and improvement anticipated then we will take a chance on him. Cool Judgement put up a similar effort when also third, this time at Newmarket on soft ground. Clearly there looks to be more to come there too and as another who would prefer a sound surface he too can go up a notch. Pha Mai Blue didn't do badly over this trip at Salisbury but needs to improve a few pounds this time and newcomer Craigstown may be a better proposition with the Godlolphin runners going well. Upton Grey was hammered by Rio De La Plata last time but that is no shame given the latter's Group 2 success here earlier in the week and with the experience under his belt he can be another John Gosden-trained juvenile to go close. Belgrave Square is respected after a decent debut and the usual advice to watch the market applies to the other newcomers. Intriguing then, and Missioner is a tentative selection.
