In depth

Verdict

Ivory Lace has plenty in her favour, Charlie Smirke will feature on a number of short-lists but a chance is taken with SHAKEDOWN who was a shade disappointing in a similar contest at Newbury last time. In fairness, he was only beaten under five lengths into fifth and it was his first outing since the end of 2008 so he's entitled to improve for it and the handicapper has been kind enough to drop him by another couple of pounds. He looked well handicapped anyway on his old form and is worth chancing although reference to the market is advised. Ivory Lace runs this sort of track well and has finished in the money on six of her fifteen visits here and she's not too badly treated at present but it was disappointing to see her beaten so far out at Brighton last time and supporters will need to forgive that performance. Charlie Smirke did enough last time to think that he can make his presence felt on turf whilst Fifty Cents is very well handicapped if his in-form yard can nurse him back to form but there was little sign of that last time and preference is for Shakedown.
