In depth

Verdict

Secretary General gets the vote over Prince Of Thebes, with Gavroche, Rinjani and Momtic also holding claims. This has the makings of a closely-run affair, but with Paul Cole's stable back among the winners, hopes are high that Secretary General can follow up his confidence-boosting Nottingham success. The three-year-old got the better of Inchloss in a close finish that day, and the latter has since franked the form, so with Seb Sanders in the saddle, Secretary General should start to make up for lost time as he was expected to land some decent handicaps by connections at the start of the season. Prince Of Thebes will be a threat though, as he defied an absence when scoring at Ascot and the runner-up Welcome Stranger has also given that form a solid look since. In form Momtic and the Godolphin runner Rinjani add spice to the best race on the card, and you would not rule out Gavroche who found things too hot in a very competitive Goodwood handicap last time. A good contest on paper can go to Secretary General.
