In depth

Verdict

Wild Pitch has been in good form on the all-weather of late but has risen steeply in the weights as a result so may be best watched now and preference is for Swan Queen, with Cleaver rated the pick of the remainder. The selection is less exposed than most of these and looks to be going the right way judged by an encouraging reappearance run behind Moon Empress at Salisbury, a reproduction of which may well suffice today. Fregate Island would have claims on the form shown when successful at Goodwood last month but has disappointed again since then and looks best watched. Nero's Return has failed to progress so far this term, while Pocketwood ran much better last time but has gone up 3lbs for that outing and of more interest may be the Lady Herries-trained Cleaver, especially as it now appears that he does stay this far. Swan Queen has solid claims though and is hard to oppose.
