In depth

Verdict

A tough contest to call and the narrow vote is given to AMAZING TIGER, while Chadwell Spring and Mutawarath are potential dangers. Chadwell Spring won a similar contest over course and distance last month and went well enough in defeat under a 6lb penalty at Pontefract in her attempt to follow-up. The course form is a plus, though she does look to need faster ground to be at her best and with a 2lb further rise to a mark of 71 we will take her on. Mutawarath landed a York maiden in the spring before being found out on soft ground in a handicap for the first time at Ayr. He was bang out of form at Kempton last time and has a bit to prove here, but is not one to dismiss readily. Eastern Warrior's Ripon maiden win did not look quite so good after he was turned over next time and this mark of 76 still looks stiff enough for John Hills¿s gelding. Sovereign Remedy is just 1lb higher than when going well in defeat at Newmarket in July and went well when fresh on debut, so this break may see him to good effect and with the stable still in good form he can get heavily involved. Eddie Ahern gets on well with Roar Of Applause, but the gelding is still 7lbs higher than when the partnership landed a Windsor handicap in May and the frame looks his best hope. Turning Top is very interesting now returning to a sound surface and she has run well here in defeat before today, though whether she is up to winning off this mark is open to question. So to Amazing Tiger. Mark Johnston¿s colt was thrashed in a Kempton handicap over much further last time, and this drop back to around a mile looks ideal. A sound surface suits, and his mark still looks very fair on what he achieved when taking a Musselburgh maiden, so we will give him another chance today.
