In depth

Verdict

Kindling showed improved form when landing a Haydock handicap over this trip last time but Mark Johnston's three-year-old has more to do off today's 5lb higher mark and preference is for Torrid Kentavr, who gets the vote ahead of Merrymaker. The last mentioned bounced back to winning form when landing a Catterick handicap two weeks ago but Mark Brisbourne's gelding has paid the penalty at the hands of the handicapper for that success and this looks tougher. Papeete was well held off today's mark at Goodwood on Tuesday but may do better back over a shorter trip, while top weight Scottish River would probably want a faster surface. The locally-trained Blackmail and last month's Windsor scorer Mixing are others to consider but the vote goes to Torrid Kentavr who has been running consistently well of late and is unexposed over today's trip that may well suit better than shorter distances now.
