    Verdict

Clear Spring bounced back to form with a cosy win at Bath a fortnight ago but an 8lb rise tempers enthusiasm for a repeat. Meandmyshadow scored at Thirsk last time and had a handful of today's rivals behind when winning at Catterick in May. FREE SPIN and Mappin Time finished closest to the latter on that occasion and David Barron's charge is fancied to turn the tables on better terms today having failing to see out the mile trip at Chester recently. Albaqaa looks high enough in the handicap now but Defence Council finished a close-up fifth at York a fortnight ago and makes more appeal than Nottingham winner Point North.
