Verdict

The weights for the 2010 renewal of the Doncaster Shield marginally favour Furmigadelagiusta but with not much to find and perhaps that bit fitter we prefer Mark Johnston's RECORD BREAKER with Merchant Of Dubai looking best of the rest. There was plenty to like about the pick's return from a break when he took to the Polytrack for the first time in a listed contest at Kempton. He was only caught in the final strides that day and given his good record in some valuable handicaps he should be that bit sharper to find what he needs to win this. Furmigadelagiusta won a listed contest on his penultimate start before a poor effort in a handicap race of the same standard last time. Off these terms he has every chance but we just feel the fitness of the pick will play a part. Merchant Of Dubai hasn't been away from the track that long so should be capable of a bold bid to follow up on his narrow victory at Wolverhampton last time but he'll need to improve to score off these terms. If this does come down to race fitness then the on-form Spruce should go well but with him given a mountain to climb at the weights we prefer Record Breaker.
