In depth

Verdict

With very little form on offer, expensive purchase Ring The Boss is the educated guess to lead home a largely untried field. No Regrets, Double Leo and Navelina are interesting newcomers that are bred for this game and are worth monitoring for signs of support, whereas the penalised duo Oscar Deal and Stagecoach Diamond set what standard there is of those with experience. However, they both have improvement to find under their penalties and others make more appeal. No Regrets hails from the back-to-form yard of Nicky Henderson's and he looks sure to attract interest for that fact alone. However, there are some frustrating characters in his pedigree and he could be a risky proposition if he has inherited some of those family traits. Double Leo is a half-brother to The Weaver, who won a bumper for Len Lungo a couple of seasons ago. He should be capable of going close and any positive indications from the betting ring will be dangerous to ignore. Still, it is hard to escape the fact that Ring The Boss cost 50,000 Guineas when he went through the sales ring and, as a half-brother to useful bumper winner Diamond Sal, it is safe to assume that expectations will be high for him to get off the mark at the first time of asking.
