      Verdict

The drop back in trip will help Rafferty who can get back to winning ways at the expense of Bond Boy, Nivernais, Morse and Sir Desmond to name but a few. This is a wide-open end to proceedings, and only a narrow vote of confidence goes to Rafferty by virtue of the fact that he has not been lasting home on the all-weather of late, setting out to make all and then fading close home. Those efforts have been over seven furlongs, so the drop back in trip will surely help his cause, and as he is a now a few pounds lower than when scoring at Chester three years ago for Clive Brittain, a welcome return to the winner's enclosure beckons. Bond Boy is not the same horse that landed the Stewards Cup in 2002, but he has been racing on softer ground than he likes and is at least coming back down the weights. Watch him when the ground dries up off his current rating. Nivernais did not get the best of luck in running at Windsor, so lines up on a retrieval mission and is well enough weighted still, while Morse has to shoulder a seven-pound penalty for a power-packed finish at Goodwood that saw him dead-heat with Idle Power. Sir Desmond was in form on the all-weather during the winter but has had a break, and we shall stick with Rafferty who can go close at decent odds.
