In depth

Verdict

Fathom Five, Bond Secret and Peace Offering catch the eye here with Fathom Five taken to spring a surprise and follow up some recent sparkling performances. Bond City will be hard to beat however. He has been turning in some excellent displays in tough handicaps recently, and stepped up to Group class last time, finishing a good third. He is in top form and handles cut. Wins in Listed and Group company see David Nicholls' Peace Offering concede weight here. Those wins have come abroad, but he was speedy enough to chalk up a Gosforth Park Cup success last season. He will go well but may find the weight concession against him. Handicap successes for Bryan Smart's Fathom Five have seen him catapult up the handicap, and he was only denied a hat-trick by the stewards at Newmarket last time. His shrewd handler has clearly decided that this Listed route is the one to take, and bang in form, Fathom Five may be hard to peg back in conditions he enjoys.
