In depth

Verdict

Barney Cool easily landed the odds on his racecourse debut at Fontwell and is open to further improvement. He certainly makes more appeal than Eleven Fifty Nine, who hasn't seen the track since winning her bumper at Worcester in June last year. Bold Chief has won a couple of point-to-points and now represents a powerful stable, while both Franklin Roosevelt and Courting Whitney have already shown ability under Rules. It may be significant, however, that Richard Johnson has chosen to partner the latter's stablemate COLOUR SQUADRON. By Old Vic out of a winning bumper, Philip Hobbs' gelding is certainly bred for the job and could be a decent prospect. Favoured Nation, Fitandproperjob and Master Of The Sea are other newcomers to note.
