    Verdict

A weak opener that can be taken by Algol, with Soffooh and Alberts Story the stronger of the opposition. The selection has achieved the most of these on the racecourse without managing to get his nose in front. A decent debut over 5f here was followed by a better effort at Redcar last month, and Howard Johnson elicited further improvement from the two-year-old when the gelding finished runner-up over a trip similar to this at Newcastle last time. A repeat of that effort would probably suffice here, but with improvement more likely we will take him to score. Sooffooh will have to improve plenty from an ordinary debut at Chepstow to be good enough to take this, but after running green there, Mick Channon's colt can show us much more here and put up a good performance from a yard still going well enough. Alberts Story was hampered by the soft ground on his York debut in May and has been given plenty of time to improve for that run. Richard Fahey's runers are going well and we'd expect to see this February foal beginning to mature nicely and be on the premises here, but our preference is for the more experienced Algol.
