In depth

Verdict

The drop back in trip to two-and-a-quarter-miles may well have been the key to You Do The Math's success last time out at Kelso, as he weakened quickly when beaten on his previous outing over a half-mile further at Sedgefield. An extra furlong round the sharp Catterick track should not cause this son of Carroll House undue problems and he is taken to double up. North Landing, Macreater and Acceleration appear to provide the most likely dangers, with the former coming off a below-par fourth at Newcastle over a trip which could have been too short for him. Back up in distance by three furlongs, Richard Guest's charge should improve. Macreater is difficult to win with, as a career record of one win in 23 starts indicates, but he is entitled to improve a little off his third-place finish at Fakenham on his seasonal reappearance; while Acceleration was well behind You Do The Math last time. However, that was his first start for nearly six months and, on his Kelso victory back in May when he beat We'll Meet Again, he would be a leading contender here. But it is the more recent form of You Do The Math that earns Len Lungo's five-year-old the vote.
