In depth

Verdict

Kool Katie looked unlucky in running at Chester in a maiden last time, but the handicapper has been savage in reassessing her mark some 15lbs higher; we prefer GREY COMMAND whose best runs have come on a testing track. Mel Brittain's Daylami colt is now racing off a mark of 59 which is 10lb lower than his handicap mark a year ago. Although he is a maiden after 16 starts, this looks an easier race than he has been contesting and from his good draw he should run well. Miss Ferney chases the hat-trick this afternoon following wins at Redcar and Newcastle. Given her previous profile one would assume that the first selling win has boosted her confidence. Ancient Cross continues to run well in defeat and his mark doesn't look to be the factor that is holding him back, Blastie is open to lots of improvement as he steps up in trip on this handicap debut off a mark of 51, whilst Patavium knows where the winning line is but of late it has been on softer ground. Tivers Song has a pull in the weights with Miss Ferney for their Newcastle clash and tries a visor, the drop back in trip looks sure to suit fast-ground winner McCormack, whilst this is a drop in class and a step up in trip for Mesbaah. Not the easiest race to finish a card but we will speculate to accumulate with Grey Command.
