Verdict

Red Cell stepped up on his debut effort at Southwell when successful at Catterick earlier this month and has to be respected in this decent contest but marginal preference is for Able Master, who gets the vote ahead of Toby Tyler. The last mentioned looked useful when making a winning debut on a soft surface at Pontefract but failed to reproduce the form on a faster surface at Newcastle subsequently and may be best watched on similar ground today. Fathey made all the running when landing a Hamilton maiden on his debut and Richard Fahey's gelding has to be respected on that evidence. He makes more appeal than the David Evans-trained Kingswinford, who has not progressed as much as one would have expected. The vote then goes to Bryan Smart's Able Master, who created favourable impression when making a winning start to his career at Ripon earlier this month and he is taken to follow up that success here.
