In depth

Verdict

Both Compton Blue and Magroom will be tough to beat in this competitive contest, but the handicapper has given MR UDAGAWA a big chance here and he can take advantage. John Llewellyn's gelding was runner-up over course and distance last summer from a 3lbs higher mark, when the ground was good to soft. Faster going is not an issue, and he comes here in reasonably good form after a decent effort at Ffos Las last time out. David Probert has not yet won on him in three attempts, but tonight can be their night. Compton Blue is a threat after a ready Windsor success, for which a 6lbs rise is fair enough. Faster ground may be a slight concern this time, though he looks sure to go very well. Course and distance scorer Magroom is another to fear. He rarely runs a bad race at the track and goes on the ground, and with just a 3lb rise for his Brighton win he can again go close. On a line through Magroom, Spring Secret is entitled to get involved, and Bryn Palling's gelding goes on the ground, but Mr Udagawa is the one for us.
