Verdict

If Polar Tryst is anywhere near fit enough then she should beat these mainly disappointing sorts, with Sunday City, Rawalpindi and Spring Adieu the main dangers. Polar Tryst has not had a lot of racing for a five-year-old, and returns to action after a lengthy absence, her last appearances coming in the space of three days at Hamilton and Ayr in June 2003. On both occasions she was beaten in photo-finishes, and obviously has enough ability to warrant being kept in training rather than be packed off to the paddocks. Nicky Mackay was on board both times at the Scottish tracks and renews the partnership which adds to our confidence in Lady Herries' mare. Sunday City may be best of the others although it is not often that David Loder produces staying sorts. The Japanese-bred has fitness on his side at least, as does Rawalpindi who showed improvement when second at Southwell recently. Spring Adieu cut out most of the running when fading into fourth in soft ground at Brighton, while Seeking A Way also dropped out tamely at Sandown and is hard to fancy. There are too many ifs and buts to make this a solid betting medium, but we shall take a small chance that Polar Tryst is ready in a race that really should not take too much winning.
