In depth

Verdict

Benny The Piler showed promise on his bumper debut and may be worth chancing first time out over hurdles in a race where the main dangers may come from Sobers and Scarlet Cloak. It says much for the strength of the race that the last mentioned can be given a serious chance as the five-year-old has shown only limited signs of ability in three starts in bumpers. Lord Collingwood holds similar claims on his first start over hurdles, while Overnight gave little sign of encouragement on his recent debut over timber and is easy to dismiss. Shootforthemoon has run in Irish points and could be anything, while Hiddenfortune needs to improve for the switch to hurdling. Sobers could be of interest having had four starts in bumpers, especially with Richard Guest's horses now coming into some form but it looks significant that Benny The Piler has been put over hurdles after just the one start and he gets the vote.
