Verdict

Cool Ebony can prove the answer to another wide-open contest, with Prince Ary, Queen's Best and Kasumi all respected. Darlington trainer Michael Dods is having a good season, and it would be the icing on the cake if he could send out a winner at Ascot. Cool Ebony should run well, having just been denied a hat-trick at Ripon last month when trying to defy a 6lb penalty in the rain-softened ground. The gelding remains in good heart, and with conditions more in his favour here, is taken to make amends. Prince Ary's task at Newbury was not helped when Richard Hills dropped his whip inside the final furlong, the pair having to settle for second best to Millistar. Jamie Spencer now gets the leg up and the son of Desert Prince can prove the best of the Barry Hills trio. Queen's Best has the look of a typical Stoute improver, but on the bare form, which is nothing special, she is worth taking on, as is Godolphin's Highland Blaze, given the way that their fancied runners have flopped over the past few weeks. Further down the weights, the chance of Kasumi has to be respected though. Hugh Morrison's filly showed no signs of stopping when adding to an earlier Salisbury success at Sandown 10 days ago, and a 5lb penalty is not at all harsh. She can go well at a decent price, with preference on this occasion just for Cool Ebony.
