Verdict

Mark Johnston has won this twice in the past four years, both times with horses carrying big weights, so Sir Graham Wade musn't be ruled out as this will be the first time he's raced over this trip since landing a Listed race in France in October. Johnston also runs Fennell Bay, whose victory at Thirsk just gets him into the handicap with a penalty. Rye House was undoubtedly impressive at York but has been raised 9lb as a consequence and both victories to date have been gained on soft ground. Lahaag ran a fine race behind First Mohican over 1m2f at York and steps up to this trip for the first time. His pedigree suggests it's about as far as he would want to go unlike USTURA, who is by Nayef and has already won at the trip. The Godolphin entry is very much a late maturer and the fact that he only won narrowly at Windsor after meeting trouble in-running is a bonus as he's only been raised 4lb and looks well enough handicapped to take this.
