Verdict

Power, who won the Coventry Stakes on this day last year, probably brings the best form into this having bounced back from a shocking run in the Qipco 2000 Guineas to beat Foxtrot Romeo, Born To Sea, Newmarket third Hermival and Wrote in a strongly-run Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh last month. He wouldn't want any more rain but, with favourites having won six of the last seven runnings of this, is clearly the one to beat. However, MOST IMPROVED was just behind the Ballydoyle colt in last year's Dewhurst and, after an interrupted preparation which forced him to miss the Newmarket Guineas, ran a lot better than the final result suggests in the Prix Du Jockey Club at Chantilly when finishing ahead of Gregorian. He'll need luck in-running from stall 15 but probably has more class than unbeaten stablemate Cogito. French raider Lucayan had Dragon Pulse behind in the French 2000 Guineas but the latter didn't get a great ride that day and was just behind Power in last year's National Stakes at the Curragh. Gabrial was impressive in a handicap at Haydock last month but had earlier been beaten by Arnold Lane at Chester and Dante third Fencing may not have the speed for this, though did finish sixth to Camelot at Newmarket.
