Verdict

Irish 1000 Guineas winner Again must be considered a big danger but the interesting rival is REGGANE who is taken to notch one up France; Rainbow View, the top filly of 2008, is not to be ignored however as she bids to get her career back on track. A winner on her first start at Chantilly in May, the selection then went on to finish a close second when stepped up in class in the Prix de Sandringham. She was held up near the rear there but showed a great turn of foot to get within half a length of the winner (raced prominently; got first run) and this Red Ransom filly must go close if showing the same speed on this likely quicker surface. Rainbow View didn't love Espom last time, and indeed she may not have liked everything in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket where she found the ground too quick. If the rain comes then she must go close here with the drop in trip in her favour; she may just be too classy for her rivals after all. Joining her on the list of unsurprising winners could be Again, who provided David Wachman with his first Guineas winner in May. She seems to act on any ground and Ryan Moore is an able deputy for the suspended Johnny Murtagh. Baliyana won at Leopardstown on her reappearance and John Oxx has been patient with her; he knows how to bring his fillies along and she is open to plenty of improvement as a three-year-old, although the feeling is that she needs to. Ghanaati was a revelation in the English 1000 Guineas, winning comfortably on her first crack at a mile and her first time in Group company. She was suited by setting the fractions on that occasion and whilst she must be feared, the feeling is that she may have been slightly flattered in the end. Jean-Claude Rouget has carried all before him in France this season and Elusive Wave gives him a good chance of his first Royal Ascot winner (does have runners on Wednesday and Thursday). This filly has some solid Group form to her name, including a first Group One success last time in the French 1000 Guineas and her beating of Tamazirte and Fantasia cannot really be crabbed. This looks a higher class renewal than last year's and it is Reggane who can regain the winning thread and provide France with their first win in this race since Banks Hill in 2001.
