Verdict

The going is a concern but Metaphoric is the one that they all have to beat, Norman The Great and Crack Away Jack could give him most to do. The one time Derby fancy didn't progress as respected on the Flat but he produced a pleasing effort on his hurdling bow to run Art Professor close at Huntingdon. He should be able to improve on that in due course and will be fancied to score if he handles the ground. Norman The Great wasn't in the same league on the level but he appeals as the type to make up into a useful hurdler and his chance is respected as is that of fellow newcomer Binocular who represents leading connections. Approved Force is best of those with experience and shouldn't be judged on his flop in the Finale Hurdle at Chepstow; he could bounce back with his yard amongst the winners. He has a penalty though and of more interest is Crack Away Jack who was well backed and caught the eye on his hurdling debut at Newbury. He weakened after the last that day so still has to prove his stamina but that was his first run in more than a year and he was entitled to need it. The booking of Ruby Walsh is another big positive but Metaphoric gets the nod.
