In depth

Verdict

Brisk Breeze gets a narrow vote over Queen's Best and Samira Gold in this Group 3 fillies' contest. Henry Cecil has put himself firmly back on the map this season, and his knack of getting the best out of fillies suggests that Brisk Breeze can give the Warren Place trainer a fifth success in this event. The daughter of Monsun had been fairly slow to come to hand, but did so in fine style when beating the odds-on All My Loving in the Listed Harvest Stakes over the course-and-distance a fortnight ago. She clearly appreciated the cut in the ground that day, and as she reversed earlier form with the Irish filly last time, it is evident that she is on the upgrade. Queen's Best appears to be the main threat based on her latest efforts, including victory in the Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor, and a good second to Four Sins in Group 2 company at The Curragh. The trip is the key though, and she is not certain to last out the 12-furlongs here as well as the selection. Samira Gold has picked up Listed races at Goodwood and Yarmouth but needs to find a few pounds, while Loulwa also needs to offer more and returns from a small break. All in all, it is Brisk Breeze that is the one to beat.
