In depth

Verdict

Junior is the pick ahead of Tribe, Baizically, Newnham, Desert Sea and Princelet in a wide-open end to proceedings. This is yet another race in which there are plenty to choose from, but Junior may cap a good day for Jamie Spencer by adding to his narrow victory over Ned Ludd at Newbury three weeks ago. The latter is now slightly better off at the weights, but Brian Meehan's charge looked a natural from the front last time, and similar tactics should see him hard to pass again today. Tribe opened his account in a long-distance event at Pontefract, proving that he stays, but has been raised 11lb as a result, and will do well to follow up. Baizically tried to make all at Bath last time but was caught close home. This will be his first try at two miles, but he should get it and can give the selection a race. Newnham was very unlucky-in-running at Kempton last time, having to be switched to get a run, and will be a popular choice no doubt, but he has not raced on Turf for two years, while Desert Sea is another whose form has been on the all-weather, and he has an absence to overcome anyway. Princelet was pulled up on his return over hurdles at Aintree in April and is likely to find conditions too fast, and so it appears as though Junior is the one to side with.
