Verdict

Ouqba and Premio Loco come out best at the weights here but we'll take a chance on ALEXANDROS, with Dream Eater another to consider if able to replicate his last piece of form. Saeed Bin Suroor's Alexandros arrives on the back of a fine effort in Group Three company at Epsom, where he narrowly failed to concede weight away all-round. Having travelled well before hanging down the camber that day, perhaps he can improve for coming here - both efforts at the track previously were in Group Ones - whilst his second to Presvis in Dubai is rock-solid form in this better grade. Strictly speaking our pick has a bit to find with Ouqba and Premio Loco, but there are concerns surrounding both. The former ran poorly over course and distance last time, albeit in a better race, and was flattered by his proximity to Paco Boy in the Lockinge. Chris Wall's charge on the other hand beat his rivals at Newmarket with his potent turn of foot and the Group Two contests he's won have been less competitive affairs overseas. Clearly both horses have claims if at their best, as does Dream Eater. Andrew Balding's charge came with a late run to take third behind Goldikova in the Queen Anne here, finishing over eight lengths ahead of Ouqba, and his other run this year also resulted in a place in Group Three company. He is, though, the type to find one too good at this level and doesn't appeal as a win-only betting proposition. Pressing is an admirable globe-trotting type but will do well to concede weight all-round here. Forgotten Voice hasn't won since landing the Royal Hunt Cup here and is probably just shy of this level, similar comments apply to King Of Dixie so French raider Vertigineux may be the best value of the rest, as he wasn't beaten far behind Royal Ascot winner Byword, form which looks solid in this context. This looks a wide-open renewal of the Summer Mile, but our idea of the most likely winner is Alexandros.
