In depth

Verdict

Anna Pavlova takes a drop in grade this afternoon and is fancied to be hard to beat, with Tartouche, Trick Or Treat and old rival Bunood expected to pose several problems along the way. Well Hidden is also worth a mention as she is better than she showed a York last time and could easily bounce back now that her yard is in much better form. Watch the market carefully where she is concerned. Bunood was three lengths adrift of the selection in the Galtres Stakes and, despite running well here last time, appears to need everything to go her way if she is to reverse the form. Jon Dunlop's filly does have valuable experience of the track though and she is capable of throwing down a stern challenge if she runs to her best. Trick Or Treat has done nothing but improve all season and deserves to take her chance in this higher grade of competition. Quite whether she is up to making the step up from useful handicapper to listed-class performer remains to be seen and there has to be the suspicion this is a test too far for her at this stage of her development. Tartouche is a dual Group Three winner that has to be given all due respect. The ground should not be too much of an issue but her 5lb penalty has to be a concern in a competitive race such as this. Therefore, Anna Pavlova - a consistently reliable performer - gets the nod today. Richard Fahey has taken the precaution of dropping the daughter of Danehill Dancer in trip after she was outstayed in the Park Hill. A move which is fancied to reap a good dividend if all goes to plan for the mount of Paul Hanagan.
