In depth

Verdict

Gwanako looks as though he's been freshened up by a spell hunting and won twice over 2m5f at Sandown in Febuary. He has the class to figure but his jumping has always been a little suspect and he unseated his jockey at the Chair when tried over the National fences in 2008. The hunter chase won by Chapoturgeon at Newbury in January has turned out to be a reliable form guide. Cloudy Lane was second that day and went on to score at Ayr before finishing sixth in the Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham. Boxer Georg, the free-going Herons Well and Keenan's Future were all behind that day, while Blackstaff, Eleazar and Roulez Cool failed to finish. Anything trained by Donald McCain has to be feared when jumping the National fences but the interesting one here may be THE POLOMOCHE. He was giving 8lb to Cloudy Lane when fifth in that aforementioned Newbury race and may have more pace than his old rivals nowadays. Offshore Account was a lucky winner at Newbury last month and, like fellow veterans My Way De Solzen and Unowatimeen, may find this too tough but Island Life is in good heart, though the ground has probably turned against him. Silver Adonis and Sizing America both have good amateurs on board and may be the pick of the remainder.
