Cloverdale ridden by Joe Fanning (centre) leads On Demand at Southwell
The Sky Sports News-owned horse On Demand could only finish third as Cloverdale made a winning debut at Southwell.
There had been plenty of excitement in the Sky Sports News studios ahead of the Download The Ladbrokes App Maiden Stakes with the daughter of Teofilo sent off the 1/2 favourite to break her maiden at the fourth time of asking.
Andrew Balding's filly jumped well and was prominent but the writing was soon on the wall as the Mark Johnston-trained Cloverdale took over at the head of affairs and powered clear to record a five length success on her racecourse bow.
On Demand weakened into third, some three and a half lengths behind 50/1 outsider Molly Ahoy who stayed on stoutly for second.
Jockey David Probert believes the three-year-old will improve from her latest outing.
“She travelled really well the first half of the race and as I’ve gone through the motions turning in, she’s just got a little bit tired and the first two finished really well,” Probert told Sky Sports News.
“But she will have a little bit of a break now I suppose and step up to a mile on the grass and I’m sure after a break you will see a big improvement.”
