Tim Easterby: Won another big prize
Run Ructions Run (11/2 fav) edged out The Pirate Queen in the EBF Stallions & TBA Mares' 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle Finale at Newbury.
The popular Listed contest served up a thrilling finish as the Alan King and Tim Easterby trained mares drew clear of the field and went toe-to-toe in the final furlong of the two mile five heat.
It looked for much of the straight as though The Pirate Queen was going to repel the challenge only for Dougie Costello's mount to put her head in front on the line to win by a short-head and maintain the fine run of form of the Tim Easterby stable.
There were fully nine lengths back to Lily Waugh in third with Molly's A Diva fourth.
"I wasn't sure I'd won because she wasn't doing a lot, but thanks to Tim for putting me back on her," said Costello.
"My wife's in labour, so I'll be back home straight after this. I came here just to ride this mare, so I'm glad it's worked out."
"We've been waiting for that for two months and it's worked out," added Easterby's father and assistant, Peter.
"It came off - it was close, but she's very game. We hadn't run her lately so we could keep her for that. It's not very often plans come off."
