Ihtimal: Justified strong confidence at Meydan
The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Ihtimal (4/11f) was an impressive winner of the Group 3 UAE Oaks at Meydan.
The daughter of Shamardal was a very short priced favourite to follow up her recent success in the UAE 1000 Guineas but despite racing a little keener than Silvestre De Sousa may have liked in the early stages of the contest, she comfortably saw out the extra distance and cleared away from her seven rivals.
The runners were held in the stalls for some time after Magroora reared up and deposited Pat Cosgrave out of the saddle though this did not appear to have too much effect on the race as they went a modest gallop.
Sign Of Lucky and Illuminating Dream were among those to dispute the early fractions but all eyes were on the Godolphin filly as she began to make her move with five furlongs to travel.
Asked to go on with two furlongs to travel, she picked up nicely and soon cleared away from her rivals. Feedyah kept on to be a distant second with Mensoora back in third.
Bin Suroor said: "I'm very happy. Every time she runs she shows some class.
"When she won the Guineas, we decided to run her in this race
"It looked easy tonight for her, but as for future plans, we'll see how she comes back, then we'll talk to Sheikh Mohammed and he will decide.
"She has the class and the trip suited her tonight."
De Sousa told Sky Sports: "She has come on a lot from the last time she ran.
"She can only beat what is in the field and she did it in great fashion."
