Un De Sceaux: 'He did what he had to do'
Un De Sceaux made short work of a simple task when landing the Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park.
The 1/14 favourite was sent off in front by jockey Ruby Walsh as the tapes rode and the six-year-old barely broke sweat as his rivals failed to make any impact at all in what proved to be an exercise canter.
Willie Mullins' gelding is now unbeaten in seven starts but remains a 10/1 shot with Sky Bet for the Stan James Champion Hurdle.
Walsh said: "He was good today. When he stepped up halfway down the back, he jumped the last four or five very well.
"Mentally, he's a horse that's taken a bit of minding and looking after.
"The more he's enjoying it, the better the chance he has of progressing."
Mullins felt it was job done, but emphasised that no decision had been made as to whether Un De Sceaux will run in the Champion.
"He did what he had to do," said the trainer.
"His jumping wasn't quite as fluent but he was going a steadier pace and it's nice to see that he's relaxing better in his races now.
"We'll see how he comes out of the race and we'll see what happens between now and then (Cheltenham)."
