O'Faolain's Boy clears the last on his way to victory

O'Faolains Boy (8/1) won the RSA Trial Novices' Chase (formerly known as the Reynoldstown) at Ascot.

The Rebecca Curtis-trained seven-year-old was never too far off the pace and made his move round the oustide of the field turning for home.

He was more fluent than Many Clouds at the final two obstacles and was firmly driven out by jockey Barry Geraghty to record a two and a half length win.

Curtis said: "He was a bit green on his chasing debut and then he was desperately wrong at Haydock where he scoped badly but we cleaned him up and the yard seem to be coming right now.

"This run puts him right in contention for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham and we were always going to judge him on today.

"He's not a slow horse, Barry [Geraghty, jockey] said he travels well and has a bit of class, so we think he'll be fine on better ground."

Oliver Sherwood's Many Clouds (2/1) plugged on for second having jumped well throughout for Leighton Aspell, but he didn't see out the race as well as the winner.

The 13/8 favourite Gevrey Chambertin jumped well out in front on his chasing bow but was fairly keen and he faded tamely on the home turn, eventually pulling up before the final fence.

Sky Bet cut the winner to 16/1 (from 33s) for the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, whilst he was also trimmed to 12/1 (from 20s) for the National Hunt Chase over four miles.

Spokesman Michael Shinners said: "With Gevrey Chambertin not running his race and Many Clouds not seeming to last home, this may not have been a stellar race but it was a stellar performance.

"The winner looks a strong stayer and this was a bounce back to form after his previous effort."
