Istabraq: Aidan O'Brien's last winner over hurdles before Carriganog
Carriganog, Aidan O'Brien's first runner over obstacles for 10 years, ran out a ready winner of the Laganore Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel.
Kilcash Castle was the last horse to represent O'Brien over fences at the 2003 Galway Festival while Darapour was his last runner over hurdles at the 2002 Cheltenham Festival.
O'Brien's last winner over hurdles was the mighty Istabraq, who won at Leopardstown in December 2001.
Carriganog had run in two bumpers last season and was always travelling smoothly for Robbie Power, who had schooled the horse in preparation for the outing.
Sent off at 9/2, Carriganog picked up the running turning into the straight and beat Roman General by five lengths.
Power told At The Races: "He's a lovely, big horse, he's only four and he's got plenty of growing up to do as he's still very green but he's got a nice future.
"He was a bit tricky in some of his bumpers so Aidan sent him to us to school but in fairness, from day one he's always been good with his jumping.
"Aidan hoped he'd run well but expected him to come on for the experience. In the main he jumped very good. Hopefully he has a nice future."
