Maarek: Relished conditions at Newbury
Maarek stayed on strongly to record a convincing victory in the Dubai International Airport World Trophy at Newbury.
The son of Pivotal confirmed his liking for soft ground with an authoritative victory in the Group 3 event on only his second start for Irish trainer Bernard Lalor.
Recent Beverley Bullet winner Stepper Point blazed a trail and led until inside the final two furlongs but he couldn't sustain his effort as Maarek and York Glory swept past him.
It was the son of Pivotal though who had the stronger finishing kick and he ran all the way to the line to record a length victory at 9/2 from York Glory, with veteran Kingsgate Native a further head back in third.
Owner Peter McCutcheon, who also bred third-placed Kingsgate Native, said: "It's been a dry old summer, so hopefully in a wet autumn he can do al right.
"All being well, it's on to the Abbaye, and then back to Ascot for the QIPCO Sprint which he won last year."
