Viztoria goes clear to score at Doncaster
Three-year-old Viztoria defied her older rivals with an accomplished performance to take the OLBG Park Stakes.
Trainer Eddie Lynam, who sent out Duff to take this contest in 2009, managed to succesfully target this Group Two prize again, with Viztoria - off the course since finishing sixth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot - sprinting away to score under Wayne Lordan.
The positively-ridden Lockwood had got the better of 9/4 favourite Gregorian with a quarter of a mile to run, but Lordan was still winding up Viztoria and her final flourish saw her take the spoils by three-quarters of a length.
Lordan said: "Eddie told me this morning that she'd travel really well and to sit as long as I could - she did exactly that and went to the line well. She's an improving filly and she's going the right way."
Leading the celebrations were Sheila Lavery, who along with her brother John, bred the filly and only narrowly avoided selling her in 2011.
"She was only bought as a pinhooking project but she failed to sell when we put a reserve on her of £9,000 - which looks quite cheap now!" said Lavery. "The trainer hasn't come today as his daughter is riding in the amateurs' Derby at the Curragh but he will be delighted.
"She's got a very good record when the going is soft so we've got the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp in mind for her."
