La Collina gets up in the final strides to score
La Collina gained a surprise second Group One success when taking the Coolmore Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.
Without a win to her name for over two years since she took the Phoenix Stakes and only fifth in the same contest 12 months ago, the 25/1 chance was well-positioned when others met trouble in running off a fairly slow gallop and swept past Lily's Angel and Say under Chris Hayes.
"I can't speak, I'm fully choked," the emotional rider told At The Races.
"She's coasted around. I got good advice off Declan (McDonogh) before the race. It's unbelievable.
"I owe it all to the boss and to the owners. She's been in great form and I'm so grateful they stood by me."
Prendergast added: "She's very, very special. She's very genuine and everything came right for her today.
"She has plenty of guts and the only bad run she's had was the last day here when it was very heavy.
"She worked during the week with Gordon Lord Byron and he won at Haydock so that made us more confident.
"We will probably go for the Sun Chariot (at Newmarket) - she was fourth in that last year. After that who knows!"
