Talent gets the better of Lady Nouf to win the Pretty Polly Stakes

Talent looked a useful prospect when making a winning return in the Tweenhills Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket.

There were plenty of promising fillies in the eight strong line up for the Listed prize over 10 furlongs with Ralph Beckett's charge a relatively unconsidered 11/1 shot.

However, she showed plenty of class in travelling strongly and then resolution in challenging between horses and seeing off the challenge of Lady Nouf.

It was a return to form from the runner-up who had failed to fire on her seasonal reappearance in the Nell Gwyn Stakes, form which had received a boost earlier on the card when Sky Lantern won the 1000 Guineas.

They were clear of the maiden winner Madame Defarge who would surely have finished closer but for encountering trouble in running while Magic Of Reality, another once-raced filly, was another to take the eye in travelling kindly before failing to quicken with the principals.

The New Approach filly has a host of big race entries, including one for the Investec Oaks at Epsom and Sky Bet make her a 20/1 chance from 40s to become Beckett's second winner of that Classic following the victory of Look Here in 2008.
