Ruby Walsh: Rode Arvika Ligeonniere

Arvika Ligeonniere produced a stunning display in the Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven year old was in the could be anything category following his win in a beginners chase after two years on the sidelines but gave notice of the depth of his talent with a devastating victory in the two and a half mile Grade One.

As he had done in the Royal Bond, Ruby Walsh jumped off in front but this time the gallop was much stronger and with half a mile to run the pair were at least 20 lengths clear of their nearest rival.

The field closed on the 2/1 shot approaching the home turn but Walsh was still motionless in the saddle unlike his rivals who were all hard at work.

Buckers Bridge and Pride Of The Artic had gone in chase of the eventual winner from a long way out and paid the price as Texas Jack and favourite Dedigout tried to close.

However, Walsh's confidence wasn't misplaced as it became obvious he had just given his mount a breather as the pair began to open up their advantage once again.

The jockey was allowed the luxury of several looks behind him to check on Dedigout's progress and didn't see anything to spur him on to more urgent action as Arvika Ligeonniere cruised home.

Walsh said: "He was a bit keen and took me on, he went some gallop - he was just relentless and I'd have no worries going back in trip with him.

"He's got plenty of pace and attacks his fences. He's a great jumper and is a horse that has always had a big engine, he's just been difficult to train but the lads have done a great job with him."

There was no shortage of quotes for the season's big races with Sky Bet making him a 7/1 chance for the Arkle Trophy and a 10/1 shot for the RSA Chase.
