Christophe Lemaire celebrates Flotilla's success
Flotilla became the first European winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf after swooping late under Christophe Lemaire.
Her trainer Mikel Delzangles is facing up to a huge few days in America and Australia and his charge here powered down the centre of the track to reel-in the leaders in the final furlong.
Watsdachacnes held on for second with Summer Of Fun a fast-finishing third.
Sky Lantern travelled better than any of her rivals turning for home but Richard Hughes' partner ran out of room down the inside and finished full of running in mid-division.
Delzangles said: "I was surprised how well she settled here. I was not confident she would win but thought she would run a good race.
"Hopefully she will be a Classic filly in Europe next year."
Lemaire said: "In the mornings she can be a little bit keen. She can be quite forceful and the pace was not very strong but she had plenty in hand. When I put her out she accelerated very well and I think she won easily.
"She was on the bit today because of the slow pace, so that's why I was a bit worried, but she was much better than the others."
