Penny Rose: Likely to head to a valuable sales race next
Hot favourite Lanansaak finished last of five as the Mark Johnston-trained Penny Rose claimed top honours in the Dubai Duty Free Full of Surprises EBF Fillies' Conditions Stakes at Newbury.
Lanansaak was all the rage as the 8-11 favourite following a thoroughly impressive Salisbury introduction, but after pulling for her head early, she weakened quickly entering the last of seven furlongs.
Leicester winner Penny Rose (5-2) tracked Lanansaak for much of the journey and stayed on strongly once asked to go about her business by Kieren Fallon to score by two and a quarter lengths from Desert Image.
Johnston said: "I wanted to run her in one of the sales races at Newmarket this weekend but John (Kennedy, owner) said to stick at seven.
"The race on Saturday was worth £100,000, which was tempting, but the fillies' sales race in a few weeks' time is worth half a million, so she may well end up there."
