Jimmy Styles: Shock winner

Jimmy Styles ran out a shock winner of the Group Three Prix de Meautry at Deauville.

Restiadargent was largely expected to star for Henri-Alex Pantall after her narrow defeat by Black Caviar at Royal Ascot, but it was Clive Cox's British raider who bagged the prize.

Gerald Mosse always had the eight-year-old in a prominent position, sharing the early lead with Shamalgan before making an early kick for home.

Although Mariol and Gammarth emerged from the pack to challenge, Jimmy Styles had flown and ran out a cosy winner of the six-furlong contest.

David Elsworth's Swiss Spirit and the William Haggas-trained Firebeam could not make their presence felt.

A fine weekend for the Godolphin operation continued when Fractional gained avery narrow victory in the Group Three Prix Quincy.

Trainer Andre Fabre has now won this mile event six times, while Sheikh Mohammed's team had already seen Alpha dead-heat in the Travers Stakes in America, and Willing Foe land the Betfred Ebor over the previous 24 hours.

The three-year-old Manduro colt has now lost only once in five career starts but it was neck-and-neck between Maxime Guyon's mount and Moonwalk In Paris as they crossed the line.

Godolphin and Fabre struck again when Masterstroke mowed down British raider Gatewood in the Grand Prix de Deauville.

Fabre's ninth win in the historic Group Two looked unlikely when William Buick and John Gosden's lightly-raced Gatewood forged into the lead at the top of the home straight.

But Mickael Barzalona, returning to home soil for the afternoon from his base in Britain, delivered a stunning late charge on the recent Vichy winner Masterstroke to lead close home.
