The well-backed Dawn Approach made it four from four in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Jim Bolger had exuded confidence before the Group Two six furlong contest and his faith proved justified despite his colt coming under pressure with fully two furlongs to run.

The son of freshman sire New Approach, also trained by Bolger, kept finding for Kevin Manning, however, and always looked to be doing enough to claim the spoils.

Olympic Glory came from the clouds to claim second for Richard Hannon and Dane O'Neill with Cristoforo Colombo in third with the first three nicely clear of favourite Sir Prancealot.

The beaten market leader was one of four runners from the Hannon stable and the choice of Richard Hughes and was never nearer than at the line while stablemate The Taj spoiled his chance by racing too freely before fading.

Cristoforo Colombo, who travelled smoothly for Joseph O'Brien, had little company in the middle of the track once pulling clear of the pack and edged left-handed towards the action without looking unlucky.

Got The Lot

Bolger said: "He's as good as I've had. He has everything. He has pace, he has stamina, he has looks and he has the temperament. There are no holes in this fellow.

"I don't see him going beyond a mile and I don't want him to go beyond a mile. That will do me.

"I'll probably give him a little break. He's a very gross horse who grubs (eats) very well, so the break won't get to be too long.

"I'd say the Futurity Stakes and the National Stakes (are options) and if I can find a space for him in the Dewhurst with the other two-year-olds I have, then maybe the Dewhurst.

"There is always Longchamp as well. He'll have three more runs (this year) I hope."

Dawn Approach carries the colours of Bolger's wife Jackie and asked whether he would be for sale, the trainer said: "I have to keep the show on the road, so if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse, then we'll probably have to part with him.

"I'm happy enough to have him for as long as I can have him."

As Smart As I've Ridden

Manning said: "I just tucked him in on the heels of the leaders. I didn't think we went overly mad early on and we just built up into it.

"Six furlongs is probably his minimum and it just took him a while to find top gear, but when he found top gear inside the last furlong, it was all over.

"I think he's probably as smart a two-year-old as I've ridden. He's winning over a trip that's not his best.

"I think when he steps up to seven furlongs you'll see a real horse.

"He's got the right attitude (for the Guineas), he's got a great cruising gear and he's got a turn of foot. The ground is not a huge issue and he ticks all the boxes."

Hannon said of his pair: "Olympic Glory did it nicely at Goodwood the other day and I think the further he goes, the better he'll be.

"I think he wants seven furlongs or a mile already and I'd say we'll either take him to Newmarket for the Superlative Stakes or for the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood.

"Sir Prancealot ran a good race. I think I'll drop him back down to five furlongs again now and he could go for the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood."

O'Brien said of Cristoforo Colombo and the sixth-placed Lines Of Battle: "He (Cristoforo Colombo) ran a great race. We were delighted with both horses."

Sky Bet made the third home a 16-1 chance for next season's QIPCO 2000 Guineas with the winner a 10-1 shot for the same race in which he could attempt to gain revenge for his sire who was beaten a neck into second by Henrythenavigator, the sire of Cristoforo Colombo.
