King: Exciting prospect in Grumeti
Alan King's Grumeti made a sparkling hurdles debut at Taunton in the totequadpot Novices' Hurdle under Wayne Hutchinson.
Formerly with Michael Bell on the Flat, the three-year-old was receiving a handy allowance from his elders and took full advantage as he trounced 13/8 favourite Ted Spread by 14 lengths.
The 11/2 chance travelled into the race smoothly and once sent on approaching two out, he powered clear to score in fine style.
He has been introduced into the Triumph Hurdle betting as a 14/1 chance by Sky Bet at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
King said afterwards: "I was looking forward to running him and have been very happy with him at home.
"I would have been pleased if he had run a solid race after talking to Paul (Nicholls) beforehand as he thinks a lot of Ted Spread. So I am thrilled with him and that was a proper performance.
"My good three-year-olds are just coming out now and I was hoping he would be one of them.
"We run Vendor at Newbury tomorrow (Saturday) and Balder Success at Plumpton Monday now. Although Secret Edge was third in the Grade 1 at Chepstow, to be honest I would hope these three will be in a different league."
