Mickael Barzalona: Won the Gladiateur
Godolphin's Ley Hunter picked up the Qatar Prix Gladiateur at Longchamp following a photo finish.
Ley Hunter had been well beaten behind Jukebox Jury in the Prix Kergolay on his previous outing and had yet to convince as a stayer but needed every yard of the one mile seven furlong and 110 yard trip to get his head in front.
Trained by Andre Fabre and ridden by Mikael Barzalona, the four year old picked up well in the final half a furlong to put his head in front on the line and deny the long-time leader Tac De Boistron by the narrowest of margins.
The slow starting Shamanova was back in third and never nearer than at the line but Michael Bell's Allied Powers proved very disappointing and was in last, or thereabouts, throughout.
