Ryan: Saddled one-two at Doncaster

Kevin Ryan saddled a one-two in the Quattrovalli Luxury Wine Champions Handicap at Doncaster.

The width of the track separated Lightning Cloud (8-1) and Louis The Pious (9-2) at the finish but the judge had to call a photograph with the winning margin a diminishing head in favour of the former.

Johnny Castle (7-1) was back to form in third.

The winning trainer said: "It's hard running two in a race but at this time of year there aren't that many three-year-old only handicaps for them. I said beforehand i didn't think there was a pound between them and I couldn't pick one over the other. It's worked out that way.

Drying wind

"I was concerned the ground might be drying out a little too much for Lightning Cloud, it's got quicker as the day's gone on, and Frankie gave Louis a cracking ride. Down past the two I could see it was going to be a two-horse race and I half thought Lightning Cloud was throwing it away by drifting over to the far rail but they are two very nice horses.

"There's a nice seven furlong handicap at Ascot in October which both horses will probably have an entry in but if they don't run again this season then they've had a great year."
