Ghsotwriting: First race winner
Ghostwriting was a comfortable winner of the Arena Structures Nursery, the first race on day one of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster on Wednesday.
John Gosden's Ghostzapper colt finished seventh last time in the Group Two 32Red.com Superlative Stakes at Newmarket but bounced back to form down in class on Town Moor.
The 9-2 favourite was held up in the early stages by William Buick and quickened smartly inside the final furlong to win by a length and a quarter from The Blue Banana (10-1).
Magic City (11-2), who got no sort of run under Richard Hughes when blocked inside the two-furlong marker, did all of his best work late on and just pipped West Leake Hare for third on the line.
Buick said: "It's a good start to the week. He went down with me very keen so I wanted to get him relaxed and out of the wind.
"He worked his way nicely into the race and is a real little streetfighter, he deserves this. He's as tough as they come and dug deep for me.
"The headwind is very strong and you want to get cover. You want to delay your challenge as long as you can and if you can get a nice tow through the race that's ideal. The ground is very nearly perfect."
