O'Meara: Another big-race winner
David O'Meara's Smarty Socks (11-2) landed the Fly London Southend Airport Handicap at Ascot.
The consistent handicapper was not winning out of turn, having been placed at Goodwood and York the last twice, and he travelled well here before committing for home with a furlong to run.
Michael Bell's Gramercy was a persistent challenger in the closing stages but the mount of Daniel Tudhope had enough in hand to score by a length.
Gramercy (9-1) was clear of the rest in second, with David Elsworth's 7-2 favourite Eton Rifles back in third.
